Today we visit Studio 493 for our #Artist365 spotlight of Patricia Nolan Brown lovingly known as Troods!

Troods is a lifelong artist whose work is rooted in an enduring drive to create. Formally trained in painting and design at Framingham State University under James Eng and Arthur B. Mazmanian, Troods earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art and went on to found two successful graphic design companies. This foundation in both fine art and design has informed a multidisciplinary creative practice that spans painting, invention, and authorship, including the book Idea to Invention, which explores the creative process.

Now working full-time from Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in Lowell, Massachusetts, Troods has cultivated a studio practice centered on expressive oil painting. Executed primarily in an impasto style, the work emphasizes texture, movement, and emotional resonance. Drawing inspiration from travel, nature, and the unconventional, each painting reflects a personal interpretation of the world—balancing observation with imagination.

Troods’ work is held in private and public collections internationally, including the permanent collection at Galerie Diderot in France. At the core of the practice is a belief in art as a form of connection: each piece begins with intention, created with the hope that it will find and resonate with its intended viewer. Troods approaches the canvas as both creator and conduit, embracing the role of messenger through a deeply intuitive and soul-driven process.
