One of the biggest challenges when coaching very young players is helping them understand how to keep the ball close while dribbling.⁠

From my experience working with thousands of children, simple, relatable progressions paired with engaging visual cues are key to building this foundational skill.⁠

A brilliant way to start is by asking the children to imagine the football is ‘super-glued’ to their hands.⁠
⁠
Give them a task to complete while keeping the ball glued to their hands. This helps develop their awareness and body coordination.⁠
⁠
Once they’re confident, challenge them to ‘super glue’ the ball to their feet instead.⁠
⁠
This approach helps children grasp that dribbling is about maintaining close contact with the ball, not kicking it away.⁠

When coaching kids aged 5, 6, and 7, it’s less about technical instruction and more about capturing their imagination and keeping them engaged. ⁠
