Born this day in 1895, Mildred Mary Bruce proved that not every Bentley-driving hero had to be a Bentley Boy. A multiple record-breaker, she borrowed a Works 4½ Litre and set a new 24-hour solo record of 2,164 miles at the banked Montlhéry circuit in France, averaging almost 90mph. So when our teams needed a codename for the most extreme Supersports in our history, one inspired suggestion won the day: Project Mildred.
