Rosalind Young-Goree's charm and friendliness are dead giveaways of her Texas upbringing. The "yes, ma'am" and "no, sir" of her youth served her well during her 12-year stint in the Army.
 
She dreamed of being a doctor and began her academic path by studying chemistry at Xavier University in New Orleans. Life changed, and her career took a turn.
 
While she had hoped to see the world, the Army had other ideas. They sent her to the Fort Benjamin Harrison Finance Center in Indianapolis to pay the troops.
 
That eventually led her to Lilly, where she began her career in 1989, cleaning labs at our Indianapolis research headquarters.

While working for the Army, Rosalind earned a bachelor’s degree in biology. With that background, she soon advanced to lab technician and began rising up the ranks.
 
Today, Rosalind is a lead technician in supporting manufacturing operations. She monitors day-to-day processes with military precision to ensure the quality of our products is safe and stable.
 
Rosalind credits a robust support system of women who kept her encouraged when the job had challenges. "I am a voice for many people, especially African American employees, who try to adapt to an unfamiliar environment. I make them feel included, instill self-confidence, and provide them with resources for success," she says.
 
In her 34-year Lilly career, she has seen more and more recognized for their talents and advance into leadership positions, especially in manufacturing.
 
"There is camaraderie, a team effort of open minds, positive attitudes, and the confidence to share ideas," she admits. "We all have one goal—to make sure the product we produce is of good quality and worthy of the red Lilly logo."
 
"When I tell people where I work, they get excited and tell me how much our medicine has helped them," she beams. "Their quality of life has improved and that's a tremendous purpose to have."
