“I grew up watching my dad race. Even as a kid I knew the race track was where I wanted to be. At 17, I started having a lot of success and was coming into my own in the sport. I felt like nothing could hold me back. But everything changed in 2011 when I was diagnosed with #T1D and I was told I could never race again. I didn’t give up though. I found a great doctor who told me that if I worked hard, I could race. I started with changes to my diet and exercise, and I began to use devices that collect data while I’m on the track. I’ve learned to lean on my medical team in California to help me manage my diabetes. 
I’ve always loved racing. Since my diagnosis, I’ve learned to love it that much more. I realize how precious everything in life is, including driving racecars. Diabetes makes me appreciate everything I do. My name is Ryan Reed and this is #MyDiabetesStory.” Lilly Diabetes, NASCAR, and Lilly Diabetes ambassador Ryan Reed have come together to encourage fans to take action to better manage their diabetes through the Lilly Diabetes Racing Program. As the Official Diabetes Health Partner of NASCAR, Lilly will offer engaging diabetes educational initiatives for NASCAR fans.
