I know this might make some people pause.

Because we’re so used to hearing:
“Support the baby’s head.”
“Don’t let their head fall back.”

And yes, those things matter.
When you’re picking a baby up.
When you’re laying them down.

But this? This is different.

This is the guppy position, something our infant body worker introduced us to. (Giant thank you and shout out to loveofalittleone!!)

With their body supported — neck, shoulders, and upper back held securely — we allow their head to gently extend back. Which, is a position they spend a lot of time in in utero.

And for these boys? It does something incredible.

It opens their bodies.
Releases tension.
Helps regulate their nervous systems.
And you can actually feel them soften.

Add with deep, grounding breaths from me, it becomes a moment of connection and calm for all of us.

Infant body work has been such a beautiful reminder that babies aren’t fragile in the way we often think.

They’re responsive.
They’re intuitive.
They know what their bodies need.

And on a similar but also different note, as much as I love a home birth, it always takes me a minute to feel ready to step back into the world postpartum.

And with twins? Even more so.

But yesterday, I felt ready. Not just for me. But for the three of us.

Brit and I loaded the boys into their Cadillac of a stroller — we’re looking at you strollair — and walked to pick up the kids from school, about 2 miles round trip!!

And it felt so good.

Fresh air.
Sunshine.
Movement.

Life slowly coming back online. Little by little.
