🪨 Vishvakarma Cave — Ellora (Cave 10)

Among the 12 Buddhist caves at Ellora, Cave 10 stands apart — monumental, meditative, and masterfully carved.

Known as the Vishvakarma Cave or the Carpenter’s Cave, this chaitya hall recreates the feeling of a grand wooden sanctuary — entirely sculpted from rock.

Look up.

The ribbed ceiling arches like a cathedral vault, carved to imitate ancient timber beams. Stone made to resemble wood. Permanence shaped like something once perishable.

At the far end sits the Buddha in his preaching pose (Dharmachakra Mudra), framed by a towering stupa. Calm. Centered. Timeless.

The rows of pillars guide you inward —
from the outer world
into silence.

Carved in the 7th century CE, this hall is not just architecture —
