This is not just a temple wall.
It is layered storytelling in stone.

Look closely at the horizontal registers rising from the base:

From the bottom up —

🐘 Elephants — strength and stability, the foundation of the cosmos.
🦁 Lions (Yalis) — power and royal authority.
🌿 Floral scrolls — rhythm and balance.
🐎 Horsemen — movement, warfare, and royal might.
🌿 Scroll band — transition and ornamentation.
📖 Epic narratives — scenes from the Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Puranas.
🐊 Makaras — mythical guardians of thresholds.
🦚 Peacocks / Hamsas — grace and celestial beauty.

Above them rise monumental deity panels — Shiva, Vishnu, divine forms framed in intricately carved miniature shrines.

The wall itself is not flat.
It follows the star-shaped Hoysala plan — creating projections and recesses that play with light and shadow throughout the day.
