🌲 What does a tree and a history book have in common? 📖

Using a tool called an increment borer, our forestry professionals pull a small core sample from a tree’s center. Each ring tells a story, capturing drought years, fire history, and seasons of growth.

By coring a tree, we gain insight into past climate, growth patterns, and ecological disturbances, and can even spot internal decay or pollution. 

That information helps guide how we manage California’s forests, keeping ecosystems healthier and communities better protected from wildfire.
