Let’s talk about the 4th trimester. Giving birth is one of the hardest experiences of our lives and then we have to jump right into motherhood without anytime to heal or really prepare. We forget about our emotions and the way we feel physically and emotionally because we have a baby in front of us that needs us. You can read all of the parenting books and do all the research but once he’s here we have to question everything. I have been wanting to be a mom since i was old enough. I never thought of how hard it would be and all the small things i overthink. Honestly, i get mad at myself for getting sad or upset because i wanted to be a mom for so long. I get aggravated when i make the smallest mistakes. I know I’m not perfect but i want to be perfect for him. The lack of sleep, changing hormones, always hungry and thirsty, constantly pumping or breastfeeding, holding a baby on my boob, cooking, keeping his room clean. Figuring out what we are going to eat. It’s a lot! I wouldn’t trade it for the world but i have to let myself admit that it is overwhelming. I feel guilty about running errands or even taking a shower if he’s awake. I have to tell myself I’m doing my best and that I am exactly what he needs. I have to remind myself that no one is perfect and that i will learn as i go. I am so grateful for my support system. I don’t know what i would do without my husband and mom being right by my side. It’s true that it really takes a village. Even with my support system things are hard but we got this!!!! Let’s normalize letting moms feel this way and supporting them when they need it the most.
