Looking back at last summer’s Joffrey South Summer Intensives, where ballet and jazz & contemporary dancers train within a focused and immersive environment designed for growth, discipline, and artistic development. Set in Georgia on the campus of Kennesaw State University, these programs offer an intimate and supportive setting under the direction of Artistic Director Colleen Barnes colleenbarnes10 .⁠

In the Ballet Intensive, dancers are guided through a rigorous classical training process with two technique classes each day, alongside pointe, variations, and conditioning. Jazz and contemporary classes support range and coordination, building dancers who are both technically strong and versatile.⁠

In the Jazz & Contemporary Intensive, daily training spans jazz, modern/contemporary, hip hop, and conditioning, with ballet integrated throughout the week. The structure encourages adaptability, musicality, and a deeper understanding of multiple movement styles.⁠

As the intensives progress, the focus expands from daily training into performance. Mornings remain grounded in technique, while afternoons shift toward repertoire and rehearsal, leading to a fully produced theater performance in the final week.⁠
