Every insecurity I’ve ever had can be traced back to something someone else pointed out first.
Something they laughed at.
Something they repeated.
Something they made sure I noticed.
And even though most of the bullying stopped after middle school… the voice never really did.
It followed me into high school.
Into my relationships.
Into every room where I felt like I didn’t quite measure up.
Into social media, where it all got loud again.
People think once you’re “strong,” words don’t affect you anymore.
But they do. They always do.
They shape how you see yourself in pictures.
How you show up online.
How confident you feel standing next to someone you think is “more beautiful.”
They make you hesitate. Shrink. Overthink.
And the hardest part?
I can honestly say I love the way I look now…
but so many of the things I changed were never things I noticed on my own.
They were things I was taught to see.
That’s the part people don’t talk about enough.
I will always be an advocate for self-love.
For doing whatever makes YOU feel confident.
For becoming the version of yourself that feels like home.
But I also carry the truth that confidence didn’t come naturally to me…
it was built on years of unlearning things that were never mine to carry.
So if you’re still in the place
where their words feel louder than your own…
I hope you know this:
You were never the problem.
You were just surrounded by people who didn’t know how to recognize something different as something beautiful.
And one day, you will.
