Nearly two thousand six hundred startups applied. Only 15 got in. Let that number sit with you for a moment — because it tells you two things. One, the demand from African founders to be seen and supported is massive. Two, the quality of what is coming out of this continent right now is impossible to ignore.
Google’s Accelerator Africa Class 10 just welcomed founders from Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, South Africa, Angola, and Ivory Coast. They are building AI tools for fraud detection. Platforms that help governments digitise informal food markets. Cross-border payment infrastructure. Portable ultrasound devices saving mothers’ lives in rural Uganda. Real solutions to real African problems — not copies of what worked in San Francisco.
For three months these founders get direct mentorship, access to Google’s AI and cloud technology, and a clear runway toward follow-on funding. But honestly the bigger story is this — 2,600 people applied. That is 2,600 African founders who woke up and said “I built something worth showing the world.” That energy does not lie. The ecosystem is alive and it is growing fast.
