A new ‘Divergent’ book is officially on the way. 👀

‘The Sixth Faction’ by Veronica Roth releases October 6 and reimagines Beatrice “Tris” Prior’s story in an alternate timeline. It is not a prequel or sequel. 🫢

Instead of following her original path into Dauntless, the book explores what happens if a tragedy at her Choosing Ceremony leads her to make a different decision entirely.

The novel still follows Tris as she becomes connected to an underground rebellion and encounters a boy with a number for a name, widely understood to be Tobias “Four” Eaton.

The book is part one of a duology, with the conclusion coming out in early 2027.

Fans of the original series have had mixed reactions. Some are excited for the return of YA dystopian energy alongside franchises like ‘The Hunger Games’. Others are calling Veronica Roth bold for essentially revisiting and reframing her original story ending (if you know, you know). 🤧

The ‘Divergent’ franchise was previously adapted into a film trilogy starring Shailene Woodley and Theo James but did not complete the full book series adaptation. However, last fall, Shailene did express interest in returning to play the character if the right opportunity came about. 👀

With this announcement and the new ‘Hunger Games’ movie coming this fall, YA dystopian fans are calling it a throwback season to 2014. 🙌
