The 2026 bostonmarathon healed me as a runner: A love letter to running. 🏃🏼‍♀️✨

Since my cancer diagnosis in 2017, running has still been a part of my life, but it hasn’t been my life.

My health and wellness, both mental and physical, took a backseat to my career aspirations, and that’s okay! For 8 years, I hadn’t trained for marathons like I should. I ran races to prepare for other races, and counted on my mental strength to pull me through. It did, for 9 marathons. 

I ran nearly 300 miles this training cycle. I’m still not where I want to be, but I’m on the way there. The Boston Marathon was my best race in 9 years. I never hit a wall. I felt great. The entire race, I smiled (or happy cried), cheered on and encouraged other runners, and knew I was going to beat my goal (and realistically could’ve pushed harder and demolished it). 

I found joy in running again somewhere between Hopkinton and Boston. There’s literally nothing like it. I know you can find that joy, too.

Thank you to my friends and family, my support system, for uplifting me and pushing me to continue to work harder and run more, and recover when I needed it. 

I am so grateful to be able move my body. When I heard the words, “synovial sarcoma” in 2017, my first words to my oncologist were “okay but can I run the Chicago and NYC Marathons”, not “how are we going to beat this”. It took nearly 9 years, but I’ve finally beaten that cancer that (gratefully!!!!) took little from me physically, mentally.
