In the early 1950s, rising fears about smoking and cancer pushed companies to market safer cigarettes. Kent introduced a “Micronite” filter in 1952, claiming it offered superior protection. However, the filter actually contained asbestos, a highly toxic material now known to cause serious lung diseases including mesothelioma. Smokers unknowingly inhaled harmful fibers. By the mid 1950s, the asbestos was removed, but the damage had already been done, making it one of the most alarming examples of misguided health marketing in history.
