LIONS GROUND EAGLES IN POSTSEASON OPENER: The jserra.beachvolleyball team kicked off the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs with a 4-1 triumph over Trinity League rival Santa Margarita on Thursday at JSerra Catholic High School.

The third-seeded Lions improve to 16-2 overall on the season and will take on No. 2 seeded Redondo Union in the Division 1 semifinals next Wednesday.

Seniors Sara Moynihan and Emma Champagne were victorious at Line 1 by scores of 21-8 and 21-11.

Seniors Skylar Noble and Presley Johnson rallied late to win their opening set at Line 2 by a score 21-19 before seizing the second set 21-15.

Junior Berit Brinkema and sophomore Ava Champagne turned in triumphs at Line 3 of 21-18 and 21-17.

Seniors Catherine Beadles and Charlotte Nowak dropped their opening set at Line 4 by a score of 22-24, but rebounded for wins of 21-13 and 15-4.
