“For me, I found joy and happiness in Scouting and it helped me balance sports, school and a social life.”

How about a little #WayBackWednesday for your feed? You see, late last year, we received some incredible news: Carter R. (quoted above) from Troop 355 in San Marino, California, has officially reached #EagleScout rank!

Beginning his #Scouting adventure in 1st grade (as a #CubScout), Carter chose to improve Switzer Falls Trailhead in the Angeles National Forest as his #EagleServiceProject. With the help of his fellow #Scouts, Carter installed multiple signs, cleared the fire lanes of mud and debris, repainted the red curbs and handicap area, repainted parking and stop lines, and removed rust and repainted the entrance gate.

“I knew I wanted to be a part of the Eagle community for the rest of my life, sharing something in common with people from all across the country,” Carter explains. “My favorite parts of Scouting are the fabulous adventures and memories that I built with my friends and Scout leaders: backpacking at philmontscoutranch, kayaking at Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island, flying gliders in the High Desert of California and leading younger Scouts through their advancements.”

Scouting’s impact and value are evident to more than Carter and his troop, alone.

“Scouting gives our youth the unique opportunity for building skills and experiencing the outdoors that they don’t usually get in other activities. The youth-led meetings, planning and outings allow them to learn and demonstrate leadership as they grow in the structured advancement program,” Carter’s dad says. “Scouting parents can spend time with their children during campouts and build lasting memories of wonderful shared experiences.”

Today, we CONGRATULATE Carter and encourage kids across the nation to follow in his footsteps. We promise it’s worth it.
