HAPPY EARTH DAY 🌎

Before anyone had seen the Earth from space, biologist Stewart Brand had a simple but radical idea—if people could see the whole planet, they’d take better care of it. That idea came to him in a moment of expanded perspective, and he spent years pushing NASA to release an image of Earth in its entirety. Eventually, they did.

When the first images of our planet were shared, something shifted. People saw what Brand had imagined: a finite, fragile, interconnected world—floating in space. The iconic Blue Marble image became a symbol of the environmental movement, sparking a new awareness of our relationship to the planet—and to each other.

Now, half a century later, astronauts still report the same thing: from space, Earth is one connected, fragile, and beautiful system—no borders, no divisions. It is a rare blue planet, and it is all we have. While some may get the honor to view our Earth from the vastness up there, the responsibility to protect it lies with us down here. We must take care of it, together.
