This home surveillance footage from England is a great example of how liminal spaces play into an investigation. A staircase. Something investigators say happens more than people realize. Staircases are classified as liminal spaces, transitional thresholds between two floors, two states of being. In paranormal research, these in-between zones are where spiritual energy is believed to move most freely. 
When reviewing footage like this, investigators ask one question first,
Is it residual or intelligent?
Residual means the location absorbed energy over time years of footsteps and emotion imprinted into the structure, replaying on a loop. The presence isn’t aware of you. It’s a memory the house won’t release.
Intelligent means it knows you’re there.
