His highest mark last season – as a freshman – was six feet, three inches. He showed improvement at the beginning of the season, clearing the 6-6 mark while jumping indoors in some Waukee multi-purpose room – on Ashman’s birthday, no less.
 
Just over a month ago, Malual jumped over the 6-9 mark, making him the state leader this season heading into the Drake Relays. Already a six-inch improvement from the previous season, he could’ve been satisfied with that.
