Ford will never build another naturally aspirated 7,500 RPM V8 with a flat-plane-crank soundtrack baked in from the factory. That era is gone.

The Boss 302 was Ford's answer to a question nobody in corporate was brave enough to ask again: what if we built a Mustang that actually scared track-day Porsches? The result was an S197 with a forged internals 5.0 that breathes through the biggest runner intake Ford ever bolted to a Coyote, road-race suspension geometry from Multimatic, and an aero package that wasn't just for show.

Here's what you need to know before you buy one:

→ That intake manifold and cam timing make this a completely different animal than a regular 5.0 — peak power lives near redline and it rewards you for wringing it out
→ The exhaust note is genuinely legendary, but the LS version with the side pipes will make your neighbors file a restraining order
→ From the factory it came with Torsen diff, Recaro seats, and no back seat option — Ford literally removed comfort for lap times
→ The MT-82 transmission is the known weak point — budget $2-3K for a Tremec swap or a rebuild if you're going to track it hard
→ Prices have been climbing steadily since 2023 and clean examples with under 40K miles are getting genuinely hard to find

These are sitting in that sweet spot right now where they're still (barely) affordable but appreciating fast enough that waiting another year means paying more for a higher-mile car. The Laguna Seca edition is already pulling away from the pack price-wise.
