This #LifeAfterMoody spotlight highlights an alum who applies the skills she gained at Moody every day to spark creativity and drive meaningful impact. Meet Patricia Valderrama, a 2021 utcommstudies #TEXASMoody graduate who is now a Communications Specialist for Ericsson!

From a young age, Patricia knew she wanted to be a communications professional. “When I got to high school and was presented with speaking opportunities as a Make-A-Wish Ambassador and spoke on a panel for my school district, my desire to become a PR/communications professional was sealed. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else. It was “write” or die for me.”

From sharpening her writing voice to mastering strategic thinking, Patricia is grateful for her time at Moody and the classes that helped propel her into her career. Today, she collaborates both internally with employees and externally with the media to develop compelling stories that further the narrative of Ericsson.

“The combination of written papers and real-world scenarios as part of my curriculum helped me develop a versatile style of writing, adapting the appropriate tone of voice for each deliverable I’ve created as well as developing soft skills through my coursework.”

Outside of her studies, Patricia spent her time as an undergraduate student participating in multiple organizations across campus. From being a part of the inaugural cohort of the Moody College Dean’s Ambassador program to serving as web editor for Spark Magazine, she enjoyed being on the Forty Acres whenever she had the chance. She even had the opportunity to join the live studio audience in Fall 2019 when The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon filmed an episode on campus!

Patricia’s advice for current #TEXASMoody students is to be confident in your skills, make as many connections as you can and pursue internship opportunities! “Your experience is what will interest employers the most...learn how to network with a style that works for you.”

Patricia also reminds current students to “enjoy every single moment. College goes by way quicker than you think and it’s the time to learn more about who you really are and what you value”. 🤘
