## Caption

“But the land that you are going over to possess is a land of hills and valleys, which drinks water by the rain from heaven, a land that the Lord your God cares for. The eyes of the Lord your God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year.” -Deuteronomy 11:11-12

We are given a purpose, a guidance in life, one founded in the Lord Almighty. What that looks like specifically, no one can say. Not everything that He gives is to make us self-sufficient. Not everything is meant to fix us in place. Not everything leads to understanding. Such things are given so that we must continually look to Him.

God’s people once hoped for a land to dwell in, a place to live under His care. Now, the inheritance we look toward, through Jesus Christ, is no different. We are not made to stand on our own, but to live in continual dependence on Him. 

What we want instead is a life we can manage, something stable and predictable that rests in our own hands. But God doesn’t always work that way. Rather, He orders things so that what we need must be received, not secured.

Whether it’s the next job, where provision will come from, or how healing will arrive, there are plenty of things where we simply have to rely on God. This is not neglect. God has not forsaken you. It is by intention. Dependence is not weakness when it is directed toward the One who provides. Through this we are kept near to Him.

The LORD’s care is not distant or occasional. From beginning to end, His eyes are always upon what He has made. What He sustains, He does not overlook.
