““As for me, I would seek God, and to God would I commit my cause, who does great things and unsearchable, marvelous things without number:” -Job 5:8-9

Not everything in creation is immediately understood, even when it is set plainly before us. We assume that to explain something is to understand it. To fully grasp something is to name it, define it, and trace its cause. However, God’s works are not so easily contained. Of course they are observable, describable, and encountered, but not exhausted or fully known. There are depths and connections we cannot trace.

This is true in what God has made in creation, but also in what He does in us. His works are unsearchable, beyond mapping. What the LORD ordains, provides, raises up, or brings low is not random, but neither is it fully within our understanding.

Comprehension is a different level of seeing, we are able to witness what God has done, understand some of it, but not to count it or search it out completely. What God makes is not shallow, but unfathomable.

This does not strip us of hope, but gives a reason for us to have humility. We are simply not meant for this level of understanding, to fully understand what God does and why He does it. His works are greater, unsearchable, and innumerable. There is purpose, there is a marvelous plan that is the LORD’s, what we do not understand is not without wisdom.
