“And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” -Matthew 6:28-29

Consider the flowers! Small, quickly passed by, often unnoticed unless you are one who stops and smells the roses, literally. When you do stop and really look, there are details and beauty that had to be designed. Something carefully designed, formed, set, and needing no effort in showcasing its beauty. They do not labor to become beautiful, nor work to be noticed for their beauty. There is no concern for what is lacking, for flaws, or for what they might become. And yet, they are more arrayed in beauty than ever we could create.

Creation does not have existential crises, it is not bogged down by worry for tomorrow. Rather it simply is and works the labor it was created for, pointing back to the One who made it. Every petal, every flower within a flower, every color, every minute detail speaks of a loving care and intention.

We’ve heard this all before, but have you actually considered the flowers? Have you reflected on your doubts and worries, how you’ve approached life in light of what Jesus has done for you and is doing? Have you thought about who you are, and how amazing it is that you’re alive and loved by the Author?

The same God who carefully made the beautiful flowers made you, with greater care still. You who are made in the image of God! What do we have to worry about if God so cares for the flowers, what is here today and gone tomorrow. If such attention is given to them, then we are not forgotten, we are not unseen or ignored. There is work to be done and responsibilities to carry, but we were not made to be consumed by worry. Focus your mind on the LORD, give Him your first and your best. To consider the flowers is to be reminded of who God is, and who we are before Him. His care is not absent, even when it’s not what we may expect.
