Dwayne Haskins was an American professional football quarterback who made a significant mark during his time at Ohio State University before entering the NFL. As a sophomore in 2018, he had a record-breaking season for the Buckeyes, setting Big Ten Conference single-season records for passing yards and passing touchdowns, which earned him numerous accolades including the Sammy Baugh Trophy and a third-place finish in Heisman Trophy voting. His exceptional college performance led to him being selected 15th overall by the Washington franchise in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Haskins spent two seasons with Washington before signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, where he continued his professional career and served as a backup quarterback.

Tragically, his life and career were cut short during the off-season when he was just 24 years old. On April 9, 2022, while in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to train with several of his Steelers teammates, Haskins was fatally struck by a dump truck on Interstate 595. Reports indicated that he had run out of gas and was attempting to cross the highway lanes on foot in the early morning hours when the accident occurred. His sudden death brought an outpouring of grief from the football community, with coaches, former teammates, and fans mourning the loss of a talented athlete and remembering his dedication and positive presence within the locker room.
