#TakeActionTuesday: Yesterday marked the start of Lesbian Visibility Week — a time to honor trailblazers, celebrate accomplishments, and show solidarity with lesbian girls and women across sports. 🏳️‍🌈 

We are grateful for the women who overcame barriers and paved the way for greater inclusion, like: 

🎾Billie Jean King: Founder of the Women's Sports Foundation and the Women’s Tennis Association. A tennis icon and 39-time Grand Slam champion, King has long used her platform to advocate for gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights. 

🏉Phaidra Knight: WSF Past President, current WSF Captain, pro MMA fighter and the 2010 USA Rugby Player of the Decade. Knight is the only African American to be a member of both World Rugby and USA Rugby Hall of Fames. 

🏈Katie Sowers: A football coach and formerly an assistant coach for the San Francisco 49ers, where she made history in 2020 as the first openly gay and first woman to coach in a Super Bowl. 

WSF is grateful for the history they have made and the barriers they have broken for future generations. Let’s continue working together to ensure sports are a place where everyone feels welcome and can fully thrive! #LVW26 #TheEquityProject

1. Support organizations such as Athlete Ally and the Inclusion Playbook that champion LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports.  

2. Ask your school administrator about what inclusive policies are in place and use the free resources from Athlete Ally and the Inclusion Playbook to learn more about ways to actively foster allyship. 

3. Visit Outsports’ website to read their series, “How women have led the way out of the closet in sports,” which highlights the stories of LGBTQ+ women leaders such as King and Knight.
