Florida State football fans don’t seem to be happy with the decision to make Ashton Daniels the starter at quarterback. However, head coach Mike Norvell looks for Ashton Daniels to prove the doubters wrong in 2026.

This is a pivotal year for Norvell, as he will be tasked with the play-calling duties. Personally, he has handled that responsibility for the majority of his coaching career and I expect him to excel in 2026. With that said, there should be a ton of positives to come from Daniels being named the starter: His dual-threat ability, veteran experience, dynamic performances against Vanderbilt and Alabama, and having an established starter in place before the summer.

Is Daniels a perfect quarterback? No. He has a 24 touchdowns and 22 interceptions during his college career. With that said, Mike Norvell can still be able to get the most out of him. The running backs are electric, wide receivers have a chance to be one of the best units in the conference, and the offensive line just has to be serviceable to protect to give him enough time to have a downfield passing attack.

I understand the hesitancy of the decision with not giving Kevin Sperry or Malachi Marshall a chance to be successful. However, Mike Norvell can now build his offense to suit the skill set of Daniels and has four months to do it.
