China has made it a lot easier to explore! China recently expanded its transit visa from 72 hours to 240 hours and over 50 countries are now eligible!! That means you can spend up to 10 days in China without a visa and a lot of people don’t even know this exists (I didn’t know until last month). visitjiangsu gotonanjing

NOTE: this is NOT regular visa-free entry. It’s called transit visa-free which means you have to be traveling to a third country.

Your flight has to look like:
USA - China - Japan
Canada - China - Thailand

This will NOT work:
USA - China - USA

IMPORTANT: If your entry and exit country are the same, you’re not considered in transit and you’ll need a visa.

This applies to 50+ countries, including the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, and it’s meant for travelers already exploring Asia who want to add China as a stop.

Once you’re there, you can travel freely within 24 designated provinces (including major provinces like Jiangsu, Beijing, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Sichuan, and Chongqing), but cannot travel outside these 24 provinces, such as Tibet or Qinghai, which are not included in the policy.

If you fly into Shanghai, you can explore beautiful cities in Jiangsu Province like Wuxi, Suzhou, and Nanjing. Think canals (Suzhou is the Venice of the East), culture, gardens, historic sites, great food (Nanjing is a MUST-VISIT for foodies), and super easy high-speed train rides between cities. You could easily spend all 10 days just in this area (which I did. I skipped Shanghai and explored Jiangsu because there’s so much to do…I’ll be sharing more).

You need a confirmed onward ticket before arrival. Do NOT overstay your transit visa.

This is perfect if you’re already traveling around Asia and want to experience China without going through the full visa process. It’s honestly so much easier! #china #visitjiangsu #visa #gotonanjing
