Who doesn’t love a bit of tire theory 🤓 Let’s look at Sunday’s Training Ride (grab ride details link in story highlights).

The April training ride routes are longer but both routes are mostly in Larimer County, have some more pavement sections, and are on faster roads. This makes for interesting tires choices if we were to optimize for this ride.

A 45-50mm may be overkill. If you kept the 38mm wildernesstrailbikes Exposure or 40mm WTB Vulpine on from the earlier training rides and suffered through the more technical March ride, good for you. You kept on the recommended tires for this month’s training ride 👌

If you went bigger with the 45mm Vulpine to keep on for the whole season and wear it out, you won’t have any issues and you’ll have a good baseline to see if you can feel the speed difference to your peers with a slightly faster narrower tire on the paved sections.

The Vulpine-S tire (photo 2) features a smooth center tread which is great for both pavement and Larimer County’s mag chloride roads- if your rides don’t feature a ton of super steep, loose climbing day-to-day the Vulpine-S is fantastic.

Ok, nerd rant over.

P.S. We have a few exciting things to share from WTB in the next couple of weeks 👀
