The 2026 NFL Draft is here. NFL fans must remember not every drafted player will meet expectations. There’ve been many NFL players with hype during the NFL Combine and NFL Draft, but young rookies need time to develop, causing issues. Short lifespans of football players careers and short tempers of NFL fans make the NFL have a development problem, especially quarterbacks.

Kyler Murray, a top NFL Draft pick, was released by the Arizona Cardinals after not finding success, even with a good offense with Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Trey McBride, and James Conner, replaced by Jeremiah Love. He signed to the Minnesota Vikings to take over J.J. McCarthy to pass to Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson. Anthony Richardson left Florida to lead the Indianapolis Colts. He got benched for Daniel Jones, on the list for his play on the NY Giants, and Notre Dame Riley Leonard. Baker Mayfield was benched playing for the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Rams before finding the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tua Tagovailoa, big draft stock University of Alabama product, disappointed the Miami Dolphins and signed with the Atlanta Falcons battling Michael Penix Jr. to play with Bijan Robinson, Drake London, and Kyle Pitts. Sam Darnold bounced around the league, labeled a bust with the New York Jets before winning a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. Justin Fields from Ohio State University played for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers. Zach Wilson is on the Denver Broncos after not finding success out of BYU. Trey Lance was on the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. Mac Jones, pro-bowl QB for the Patriots, is now backup for Brock Purdy.

There’re many NFL Draft busts. Rookie QBs like Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson, Carson Beck, and Drew Allar, big names entering the 2026 NFL Draft, may not correlate from College Football to Professional Football. Same for other position players, like wide receiver Carnell Tate, running back Jeremiah Love, or safety Caleb Downs. Time will tell how these draft selections pan out.
