In our Fundamentals of Fabrication program, students practice a common tube repair technique known as a rosette splice. This method is used to fix damaged or bent sections on roll cages, bumpers, and other tubular structures.

The process involves inserting a smaller diameter tube inside the damaged section to reinforce it, then drilling holes in the outer tube to increase weld surface area—resulting in a stronger, more rigid repair.

After welding, students grind and finish the surface to match previous projects, like their trash can builds. It’s been great to see them get hands-on experience and learn the differences between working with steel vs. aluminum during the finishing process.

Great work by our students!
