Yup, the world’s favorite snack was actually born in Belgium back in the 1600s. Villagers used to fry small fish, but when rivers froze, they sliced potatoes into fish shapes and fried those instead.

Then during World War I, American soldiers tasted them in Belgium ., but since people spoke French, they assumed they were in France. And boom… ‘French fries’ were born. 🙃
