Know this before you book your Mexico 🇲🇽 trip ✌️ I wanna share some bad experiences I faced in Mexico with cab bookings and also do know in the comments if you have any Uber experience to share 🫶

Firstly Uber is safe in Mexico for the same reason it is safe in the Canada or US. However there is an ongoing conflict between local taxi drivers and Uber drivers in major cities like Cancun where things can go risky for the tourists as well.
.
Why is it unsafe in Cancun or Riviera Maya?
- In Jan 2023, courts in Cancun granted orders to allow Uber to operate however there is a strong reluctance from the local taxi drivers objecting it. 
- The taxicabs are a syndicate and they pretty much behave like a mob who wants to control the Cancun’s tourism transportation. 
- So Uber drivers are very much scared to accept rides from the touristy places or from the hotels/restaurants etc.

Cost difference quite vary between local taxi cabs and Uber where Uber is cheaper comparatively.

You must not do the below in Cancun: 
Remember, local cab drivers will always be present at airports, tourist locations, infront of major hotels/resorts/restaurants etc. So booking an Uber from these spots is very risky but not impossible.

How to safely ride in Uber in Cancun?
- If your ride is located in any of the above locations, book the pickup or drop location atleast 100m away from these areas. 
- Make sure the local cab drivers are not following you or they cannot see where you are going to take the cab
- We were also asked to sit next to the driver to make it look like we are known friends riding together.

Note : Uber drivers will right away reject your ride if you are booking from the spots where there is presence of local cab drivers.
