Facts of the Skateway:
1. It is a UNESCO world heritage site located in the heart of Ottawa over a total length of 7.8 km
2. The skateway first opened in the year of 1970-71 and ever since then the skating rink has been opened every year for more than 50 years until 2023.
3. In 2023, for the very first time in history,the rink was not opened due to lack of ice.
4. Starting from mid-October , @parks.canada drains out the canal water and then works on making the ice by flooding water periodically and letting it freeze on its own. 
5. The rink is opened usually Jan-Feb when @parks.canada  could make about 30cm depth of good quality ice, for which a min of -10C to -20C is needed for a consecutive of atleast 10-14 days.

Now that u understood a bit of history of the Ottawa’s winter treasure, it’s time that you understand how to be better prepared for this experience.

Details of the Skateway:
1. The rink is partially opened on 21 January 2024, for about 1.9km range due to the unsupportive weather conditions.
2. The starting point of the skateway is Pretoria Bridge and the ending point is Bank street. There are multiple access points between these locations from where you can enter the rink.
3. At Fifth access point, there are both indoor and/or outdoor changing and resting areas whereas the rest of the access points have benches outdoors to change or rest.
4. Usually there will be skate rentals available however it is not yet available at this point of time.
5. @beavertails is available on site at Fifth access point if anyone feels a hot bite while skating.
6. There is a first aid center onsite
