It’s only fitting I share this post today, on National Sister Day (even though we celebrate this pretty much every day!).

Back story: I’ve been celebrating rakhi/rakhri since 1991 - the year my broski was born. Growing up, I always knew this South Asian tradition to be a celebration between brothers and sisters. Traditionally, a sister ties a rakhi (usually a thread like bracelet) around the wrist of her brother (biological or not) to pray for his health and well-being. So for 30ish years that’s what I’ve been doing. Add in some gifts and money in exchange and that’s all I knew it as.

But last year, and observing this movement happening worldwide (for a few years now!), I decided that my girls were going to tie a rakhi on each other. A start of a tradition that will empower their love and bond to grow further and stronger.

This year, I’m so grateful to be supporting the @thechaimommas Raksha Bhandan campaign and their efforts to support the children of @manavsadhna Earn N’ Learn Program. With each purchase of a rakhi, a portion of the proceeds are donated to this organization to help the children in India strengthen their education, are given opportunities to learn and flourish, and offer safe and nurturing environments.

For all Canadian friends! Chai Mommas have partnered with @little.ladoo so that you can purchase these very special rakhi’s. I’ve linked all the goodness in my bio.
