It’s still heart month so I wanted to share this story. This kid right here just always catches me with her wit and wisdom. 

We’ve been getting a lot of questions from her about love and true love. She’s being exposed to more of the Disney’esque movies and sees love as part of many of the story lines. It’s innocent. But we’re also mindful of what she’s absorbing.

I had to ask her one day, “Amia, who is your true love?” Anticipating the answer would be me. But nope. She said, “Mama, myself! I’m my own true love!”

And just like that I saw what she thought of about herself. My heart smiled. And it didn’t bother me that she didn’t say me. This kid knows what’s up - it’s about loving yourself. 

We didn’t coach her to say that. The fact that she said this on her own shows that maybe somewhere somehow we’re doing something right. And I’ll be very damn sure that she keeps this mindset going strong as she grows and faces the world.
