I once went to dinner with someone who said she’d been hosting for 3 decades and I asked her what advice she’d give. She said “just invite people over. Don’t stress over it. Ask people to bring something, you’ll have plenty of food. They just want to come.” 

I’ve also started keeping a cabinet of things to use for gatherings (like this birthday party for a friend!) 
• a 20 pack of paper lanterns on Amazon are $15
• garage sales and thrift stores always have cute candlestick holders and tablecloths (I collect them and keep them in a drawer so I have different options!) 
• a bunch of fresh flowers can go a long way 💐
