How fast does primary lateral sclerosis (PLS) progress — and what can help predict that change?

A new multicenter study found that PLS symptoms decline most rapidly early in the disease, and that neurofilament light (NfL), a blood biomarker linked to nerve damage, could help forecast progression.

The research also validated the PLS Functional Rating Scale (PLSFRS), paving the way for more precise clinical trials.

🧠 UF Health Fixel Institute neurologist Dr. James Wymer was a contributing author on this important study.
