There are some new feathers in town! Our southern ground hornbill breeding pair hatched a new chick on March 1st, marking the third chick that has hatched out for our pair. Learn more from Team Lead Katy, and meet the newest little one!   Southern ground hornbills are currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, and populations across their range are declining, making every chick critically important. We are proud of our bird team and our pair's success! Organizations like the Mabula Ground Hornbill Project will take in the second chick, allowing the breeding pair to focus on raising one chick at a time. Those chicks are raised, eventually reintroduced into the wild, and monitored.   #memphiszoo #babyanimals #hornbill #conservation #animals
