Jupiter is having its moment ✨

On Saturday 10 January 2026, the giant planet reaches opposition - the point where Earth passes between Jupiter and the Sun. That means Jupiter rises at sunset, shines all night long, and appears brighter and bigger than at any other time this year.

Tonight, you can spot it as a brilliant silvery “star” in Gemini, forming a striking triangle with Castor and Pollux. You really can’t miss it.

To celebrate, swipe through this carousel for some of our favourite views of Jupiter over the years - from swirling storms and the Great Red Spot, to glowing auroras and moon shadows dancing across its cloud tops, captured by hubbleesa and esawebb.

If you’ve got clear skies this weekend, take a look - and share your view with #yourESA
