“Seek truth amidst the noise. Choose kindness where there is conflict. Stay rooted when life is busy. And don’t waste your gifts. That’s how St. Peter Canisius lived. 

“And that’s the kind of person we’re called to become, starting right here at Canisius High School.”

These are excerpts of the homily delivered by Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Chuck Frederico, S.J., as we joined the Society of Jesus in celebrating the Feast of St. Peter Canisius Monday morning during Mass with our school community in Scaccia Auditorium.

“Courage and Heart encapsulate the life of St. Peter Canisius,” Fr. Frederico said to begin his homily.

“As a Jesuit priest, teacher, and campus minister, I think of him often because he didn’t run from confusion – he leaned into it with courage and heart. He didn’t say, ‘This is too messy.’ He said, ‘Let me understand. How can I help?’ “

Students participating in the Mass included the chorus and guitar ensemble as well as: 

Charles Jerome ’29 (First Reading, from the Acts of the Apostles), Logan Ferraraccio ’29 (Responsorial Psalm), and Declan DiNunzio ’29 and Denim Thomas ’29 (both read the Prayers of the Faithful). 

Serving as acolytes were crossbearer Andrew Peer ’29 and candlebearers Henry Drab ’29 and Aidan Petty ’29.

Eucharistic ministers included Matt Carver ’26, Elliott DeRose ’26, Ben Eppolito ’26, Ethan Fronczak ’26 and Liam O’Leary ’26.

Concelebrants of the Mass were President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J., Assistant to the President Fr. Richard Zanoni, S.J., and Assistant to the Principal Fr. Edward Durkin, S.J.
