My visit to uva 🧡💙🧡💙
The 25th annual Emily Couric Leadership Forum luncheon awarded scholarships to eleven amazing high school seniors from Charlottesville, bringing the grand total of 2.4 million dollars in scholarships given to 228 young women since 2001.  The young women this year are incredibly impressive as they are every year. Olympic gold medalist swimmer  gretchwalsh2 (UVA class of 2022) was given the annual leadership award and I had the pleasure of interviewing her..and comparing wingspans. (Guess who won? 😂) 
My sister Emily was a state senator and was running for Lt. Governor when she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She believed deeply in the importance of education and paying it forward.  It was so nice to have so many family members there (Kiki, I’m sorry you got sick!) and I was so happy Jim and Katie Ryan came as well. Before the lunch I walked to the lawn where I saw some lawn residents (who also give me a lot of hope for the future) and snapped a few pictures before checking out my old room. (I got a tour from the current resident advisor Boris which i will post on stories!) I also ran into some Chi Omegas who are getting ready to graduate and had fun taking a few photos with them.  On Friday I spoke with some UVA athletes about my career (thanks to expert interviewers Carla Williams and Wally Walker) and talked about the three qualities that have helped me professionally: persistence, resilience and adaptability. I brought the students copies of jodikantor’s book “How To Start.” Afterwards I caught up with the “Couric Scholars” who have been selected@so far. (Yet another reason to feel good about  the future!) And most importantly I got to spend time with Carrie Monahan who is getting her PhD in history at my alma mater.  I’m so so proud of her! And a special thanks to my uber driver and good friend John Stacey! (Stace, I’m sorry there aren’t any pics of you…I will screw this up if I try to add one so you’ll be in my stories! Whew! This is the longest caption I’ve ever written!!! #wahoowa
