BOWEN WALKS OFF EAGLES: The feet, glove, and bat of senior Blake Bowen helped the jserra.baseball team produced a thrilling, come-from-behind 8-7 walk-off victory in eight innings over the Santa Margarita Eagles to begin their three-game Trinity League series on Tuesday at JSerra Catholic High School.

Santa Margarita jumped out to a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but the Lions came roaring back.

Freshman Joey Koenig and sophomore Jax Janeski led off the inning with back-to-back singles.

Sophomore Logan Osmundson came through with another big swing of the bat, as he blasted an 0-2 pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run homerun to cut the deficit to 7-5.

Junior Zac Veronda and sophomore Owen Mescall followed with back-to-back singles to put the tying runs on base.

Bowen reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners on the corner with one out before a passed ball scored Veronda and a subsequent Eagles error allowed Bowen to race home with the tying run to knot the game at 7-7.

Santa Margarita loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning with two outs, but Bowen quelled the threat when he made a spectacular leaping catch in deep center field for the third out.

The game went into extra innings, and with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, Bowen connected on a 3-0 pitch that sailed deep over the wall in left field for the walk-off triumph.
