Thank you to the International Superyacht Society.

On March 25th, the ISS hosted their 2026 Leadership Series at the Canopy by Hilton in downtown West Palm Beach. It was a  two-hour thought leadership session bringing together the sharpest minds in yachting to tackle the future: AI in maritime operations, alternative fuels, next-gen vessel design, and the workforce that makes all of it possible.
Captain Sandy’s Charities was honored to be part of that conversation. Captain Sandy Yawn, Founder and Randi Gold,  Executive Director of Captain Sandy’s Charities were given the opportunity to share our mission, impact and true classroom to career maritime workforce program pathways.
The dynamic duo aka #SanRan presented the real data behind Florida’s maritime workforce crisis:

Florida’s marine economy generates $96 billion in gross state product and supports over 900,000 jobs statewide.South Florida alone accounts for $18.5 billion in annual economic output and 142,000 direct marine jobs.The Florida maritime sector is valued at $14.6 billion and 40% of that workforce is retiring within 10 years. 27% of the maritime workforce is already 55 or older. 25% of shipyard workers will be retirement-eligible within five years. Shipyard order books are already stretched 24 to 36 months.
250,000 additional maritime workers are needed this decade. 37% junior crew turnover rate. The pipeline is leaking as fast as we build it.
60% of young people have zero exposure to maritime career pathways. The crisis is real. The solution is here.

Captain Sandy’s Charities has built  a statewide, classroom-to-career maritime pathway across all 67 counties, reaching 1.7 million students, educators, and families.
