Esta canción de residente me mantuvo fuerte durante Maria, cuándo estaba semanas esperando escuchar las voces de mis abuelos, mi hermana, mi comunidad… esta canción me recordaba de lo fuerte que es el Boricua. No importa que nos trata tumbar, nuestras raíces nos mantienen firme… y cuándo nos sentimos débiles… la isla entera se levanta y dice PRESENTE. Nos tocó otro momento difícil… pero nada que no podemos aguantar… porque los hijos del cañaveral, nunca se nos cae la pava… pq esta raza si que es brava… aunque sople el temporal ✊🏾🇵🇷

This song by residente kept me strong during hurricane Maria, when I spent weeks waiting to hear my family’s voice, not knowing if they were dead or alive… and while I’m lucky enough to know my grandparents are ok, they’re without water and electricity. Many in my community are suffering… which means I am suffering, which means all the Puertoricans (in and out of the island are suffering) because you see… to be Boricua is more than a nationality, our heart beats to the sound of our land… our people… and that’s something many don’t have the luxury to understand. If you have friends that are Boricua… give them grace and love, our minds and hearts are home. We’re still recovering from our PTSD from Maria, but one thing I know for sure… we will rise strong and united.
