I’m 49. And after 20+ years of reading food diaries, here’s the line I want every woman over 40 to hear:

Your body doesn’t know what a calorie is.

A calorie is a man-made equation. It was invented in a lab in the 1800s by burning food in a metal box and measuring the heat. That’s it. That’s the science the entire fitness industry is built on.

Your cells don’t read calorie labels. Your cells ask one question, every minute of every day:

Do I have the materials I need to function?

The materials are protein & macros +Fiber. Minerals. Fatty acids. Phytonutrients. The raw inputs your body uses to build hormones, repair tissue, run your thyroid, regulate blood sugar, and detoxify your liver.

And here’s the problem.

You can hit your calorie/ macro target on protein powder, protein bars, meat sticks, and shakes and starve your cells of every material they actually need. You can be in a surplus and be malnourished. Most women over 40 already are.

This is why you’re tired. This is why your hair is thinning. This is why your skin is changing. This is why the scale won’t move even when you’re “hitting macros.”

Your body is not failing you. Your body is asking for materials and being handed convenience.

I just had a client come in. Active, busy entrepreneur. Stuck 10 pounds above where she felt like herself for years. She told me she couldn’t shift it even when she skipped meals and exercised more.

I didn’t give her macros. I didn’t give her a calorie target. I cleaned up her food quality. Half her plate vegetables at every meal. Real protein, not powder. Fiber she could see.

Two weeks in, more than half of it was already gone.
She didn’t eat less. She ate more. She finally fed her cells what they were asking for.

You’re over eating because you’re under-nourished. Calories matter, yes, but quality and balance do too.

Tell me below, what’s the worst diet advice you ever followed? I want to hear it. Every comment is another woman realizing she’s not the problem.

Comment GUIDE and I’ll send you my free perimenopause nutrition guide — the exact framework I use to get women unstuck.
