The mother of a 12-year-old madrasa student has filed a formal complaint at Madan Police Station in Netrokona, accusing madrasa teacher and director Aman Ullah Sagor of raping her daughter, who has since been found to be pregnant.

The written complaint was filed on Thursday evening at Madan Police Station, naming Aman Ullah Sagor as the accused. Aman Ullah Sagor is the son of the late Shamsuddin Mia of Pachhar Borobari village in Kaitail Union of Madan upazila. He serves as the director and a teacher of the Hazrat Fatema Tuzzohra Women’s Qawmi Madrasa, which he founded in Pachhar village in 2022. His wife also works as a teacher at the same institution. The madrasa serves girls from surrounding areas. According to police and local sources, the victim is the only daughter of a widowed local resident. She was being raised by her grandmother, while her mother works as a domestic helper in Sylhet to support the family. The girl had been studying at the women’s qawmi madrasa while living with her grandmother.

According to the complaint, in November of last year, Aman Ullah Sagor raped the girl on the madrasa premises. He then allegedly threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident. Following the assault, he reportedly had another teacher expel the victim from the madrasa. Five months later, when physical changes became visible in the girl, her mother grew suspicious and travelled from Sylhet to her own mother’s home to question her daughter. At that point, the girl told her mother she had been raped by the madrasa teacher.

Upon learning of the incident, the child’s mother returned to the area to seek justice. According to the complaint, because Aman Ullah Sagor’s family is influential in the locality, instead of receiving help, the victim’s family was threatened and forced to leave the area. The girl’s mother returned and filed the formal written complaint at Madan Police Station on Thursday.

“I am a poor person. I work in Sylhet to feed my family. I had placed my daughter in the women’s madrasa for her safety. And today my daughter is pregnant. I will file a case in this matter and seek justice,” the girl’s mother said.
