Correction: Our original graphics incorrectly state that Masa opened his first photography studio in 1917. He opened the studio in 1919. In November 1921, the studio was raided in the middle of the night by police, led by a local Ku Klux Klan leader. The original post also notes that Masa’s birth year was unknown. The discoveries highlighted in the film fill in those details, and we now know he was born in 1885.
